English riding lessons for youth of all levels — from first-timers to competitive riders. Group, semi-private, and private options available.
A program forStudents at Rosebud learn the whole horse from day one. That means grooming, tacking up, feeding, and basic safety before they ever pick up the reins — and it means understanding why, not just how. The goal isn't just better riding; it's a deeper partnership between rider and horse.
Lessons cover foundational technique in English flat work, with paths into dressage and hunter-jumping as students progress. Lessons run 45 to 75 minutes depending on the class. Your child's instructor selects the horse for each lesson unless your student owns or leases their own horse.
Before joining group lessons, every new student begins with a one-on-one introductory session. Expect 15–20 minutes of grooming and tacking up, 30 minutes of riding in our arena, and 15 minutes to untack and feed the pony.
We'll follow up with next steps after that first visit. Some students benefit from a series of beginner lunge line lessons (60 minutes, private or semi-private) before moving into group lessons — your instructor will help you decide.
We do expect students to independently halter and tack up their horse when enrolling in group lessons.
A signed Release and Waiver is required before lessons begin. Lesson duration is 45 to 75 minutes depending on the class. Arrive 15–30 minutes before the start of a group lesson. Late arrivals will have their lesson canceled with no makeup.
By sharing in the work of running a farm, we keep costs down and lesson fees reasonable. Please anticipate up to one hour of barn time outside of riding at each lesson.
New to riding? We have a small consignment section at the little cabin on property where families can find gently-used gear at reasonable prices — a good place to start before investing in new equipment.
Pricing and terms as of May 1, 2026. The instructor selects the lesson horse unless the student has a lease.
Prices are based on an average of 4 or 8 lessons per month. The monthly fee delivers a fixed cost and a guaranteed lesson slot — and it averages out days off and bonus weeks. The fee is calculated to accommodate up to 3 weeks off per year (trainer days, sick days, missed lessons due to weather). Makeup lessons are offered only when the trainer cancels — 2–3 makeup slots will be offered, and your regular horse may not be available.
Leasing builds a deeper partnership with one horse, and gives you a guaranteed lesson mount even if your leased horse is unavailable.
Lease fees are in addition to lesson fees. Students with lease horses are guaranteed a lesson horse. Riding a horse with another instructor counts as a lease day.
We host schooling shows at Rosebud River Ranch a few times each year — a good option for students who want to explore showing or prefer not to trailer. Open to all students. Talk to Jules for upcoming dates.
Trailering is available for show days, clinics, and off-property events. School horses get trailer spots first, and hauling fees vary by destination and how many horses are sharing the trailer.
Review your lesson agreement with Jules for current per-mile rates, common-destination pricing, and shared-haul splits.
Boarding has its own page now — facilities, what's included, and how to schedule a tour with Jules.
